3 Ways to Give Your Eyes a Break From Your Phone

Staring at your phone all day isn’t just bad for your personal relationships, but it may be straining your vision as well. If you notice that you are getting frequent headaches or blurred vision after you stare at your Instagram account for too long, then we have some tips for you.

Take Frequent Breaks

Similar to how you need to give your eyes a break from staring at your computer screen, the same can be said for staring at your phone. The longer that you stare at your phone for without a break, the harder it’s going to be on your eyes. Try following the same rules as you would with a computer; every twenty minutes take a twenty-second break from your screen and stare at least twenty feet away; this will help give your eyes a break from looking at things so up close.

Set Designated Phone Times

If you are the type of person who is always attached to your phone for work, then it can be hard to take a break when you have clients or people emailing you all night long. When you get home at night, try setting designated phone times. For instance, make from 5-9pm a time when you don’t look at your phone. Then, from 9-10pm, you can go through your phone and check all of your emails; this will help you give your eyes that much-needed break that it needs.

Adjust The Brightness

That bright light on your phone may help you to see some things more clearly but it may also be hurting your eyes. Try adjusting the brightness on your phone during the day when you don’ t need it as much; this will help eliminate the blue light that you are exposing your eyes to.

Giving your eyes a break from your phone may not be feasible most days of the week, but making these small, simple changes can have a big impact. To learn more vision tips and tricks, contact our Clarkston or Pontiac office and call (248) 625-5922.
