How to Prepare for Lasik

If wearing contacts or glasses everyday doesn’t sound like your idea of a good time, then Lasik eye surgery may be the best thing for you. During Lasik, our experts will work to reshape your cornea which will help to improve your vision. To make sure that your surgery goes as smoothly as possible, let’s go over a few tips for you to follows.

Stop Wearing Contacts

If you wear contacts, we may recommend that you stop wearing them about two weeks before your procedure. Why? Not wearing contacts will help to stabilize your corneas which make it easier for us to perform Lasik surgery.

Remove Eye Makeup and Wash Around Eyes

The night before you come in for surgery, make sure that you remove all mascara, eyeliner, and eyeshadow from your eyes. Makeup may get in your eyes and scratch the cornea which will make it harder for us to perform the surgery. Additionally, make sure that you don’t wear any makeup on the day of surgery; that way we won’t’ have to worry about it on the day of.

Have Eyelash Extensions Removed

If you get eyelash extensions done on a regular basis, we may encourage you to have them removed before Lasik. Long, artificial eyelashes may get in the way of the surgery and make it harder for us to do our job. If you can’t have them removed, we may trim them down a little bit so they aren’t in the way.

Schedule a Ride

You shouldn’t drive right after Lasik eye surgery. Make sure that you schedule to have someone give you a ride home from Lasik so that you get home safely. If you need help scheduling a ride home, then contact our office beforehand and we can make arrangements for you.
